In all the years I’ve been living in New York, I’m ashamed to admit that I never knew the North River Lobster Company existed until this summer. I only came across it when I was on a crazy lobster roll kick, trying to find the best lobster rolls in the city (and in Cape Cod, but I’ll get to that another time). Not only does North River Lobster Company offer an incredible lobster roll deal and a selection of beers and cocktails, but they also offer a free boat ride every couple of hours. With the weather still pretty warm out, I ventured out to this incredible restaurant/bar on a boat; just in time to catch the 7:30pm sail up the Hudson.

I’m a sucker for combo deals, so North River pretty much made my day. For $40 you can get a decent sized lobster roll (or two lobster tacos, if you so choose), a bag of chips, a side of coleslaw, and a large Cesar salad AND TWO beers of your choice. Of course, for my beer selection I had to go with their brew, the North River Lobster Company Blonde Ale.

After placing our order at the register and getting our beers, we made our way out of the cabin to grab a table on one of the three floors. On a Friday night, we were lucky enough to find a seat outside on the deck, overlooking the water. And while we waited for our food to arrive at the table, we got to enjoy the beautiful view from the boat, which had already left the dock.

IMG_0963While I happily went with the lobster roll combo for this ride, there was a fantastic looking raw bar that I’ll be sure to try on my next visit. The views of the New York City skyline, which never get old, were spectacular and the lobster roll was stuffed with meaty pieces of lobster salad that included a good crunch in each bite. The beer was a refreshing blonde, perfect for an evening on the water. All in all, I can now check this one off my list. And, hey, if you’re going to eat a lobster roll in New York City, might as well do it on a boat.
