Okay, this has got to be one of my favorites in New York City. If you’re ever looking for some tasty, traditional Italian food, Margherita NYC is your spot. Located in the heart of Little Italy, this gem of a restaurant is perfect any time of year, especially right now when the weather is cold and inside, the restaurant is toasty and cozy. And when you’re greeted with the scent of wood-fire freshly baked pizza dough when you walk in, it’s impossible to be disappointed. I must admit I’ve tried at least half the menu and haven’t been let down by a single item. In fact, each time I visit, there seems to be something even more delicious than the last dish to try.

I typically like to start with the antipasto misto Italiano, which is a plate of fresh buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, salami, olives, and parmigiano reggiano. Of course, you have to try at least one of their pizzas (especially if you’re sharing). And my go-to option has become the Diavola which has fresh mozzarella and spicy salami. So good. The pizzas come straight from the oven, served on a wooden pizza platter, and they disappear almost as quickly as they appear—it’s hard not to inhale. Just saying.

And then, of course, you’ve gotta try one of the mix and match pastas. Pick a pasta and pick a sauce and devour. Yum. On a couple occasions, I’ve gone with the gnocchi. Mmm…

But wait, there’s more! The pane soffiato is also not to be missed and I must admit I’ve eaten an entire one by itself. Basically imagine a sandwich, made with fresh pizza dough, and straight from the oven. The regina margherita one is filled with what has got to be the best eggplant parm you can imagine. The sandwich arrives still steaming, and trust me, you won’t stop thinking about it even after you’ve cleaned the plate.

But time to get serious: dessert. Typically I’d say you have to go for the homemade tiramisu, no questions asked. However, I recently discovered they also serve a freshly made chocolate mouse. With fresh whipped cream on top, it’s easy to finish in just a few bites, and oh so delicious with that rich silky chocolate goodness.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, if you’re looking for some good Italian food, why not try Margherita?
