One of the most asked questions when you tell someone that you’re going to New Orleans for the weekend has to be “Are you going to eat a beignet at Café du Monde?” And the answer should always be, “Yes, of course.” Because getting a beignet in New Orleans is a must on your visit, and while Cafe du Monde definitely has great ones, there’s another spot that should be high on your list, Cafe Beignet on Bourbon Street.

If you want to tackle the line at Cafe du Monde, it’s definitely worth it. On my visit there, I got lucky and the line wasn’t too long when I finally made my way to this famous café by the river in the French Quarter. It moved pretty quickly and soon we were sitting down in the large restaurant, all cramped around a small round table looking at the menu on the side of a napkin container.

What to order when you finally take a seat? A plate of beignets (or maybe two or three) and definitely opt for the frozen café au late. The servers know how to navigate the large room of tables with people all waiting for the delicious treats and will take your order relatively quickly. They’ll then soon return with a tray filled with drinks and steaming beignets.

The plate arrived stacked high with warm, freshly made beignets covered in a heap of powdered sugar. The frozen café au late, an iced coffee slushy was crazy delicious, and perfectly complemented the warm, doughy goodness of the incredible New Orleans donuts.

Cafe Beignet at Music Legends Park on Bourbon Street is also a must for tasty beignets.

The service is super quick and when you wander into this little garden area, with live jazz music playing, order a plate of beignets from the counter and then take your seat and enjoy the surroundings. A few minutes later a beautiful plate filled with steamy beignets and lots of powdered sugar will be placed in front of you—ready to be devoured. Equally as delicious to the ones at Cafe du Monde, the warm doughy interior of these beignets are delightful and it will be hard not to finish all of them immediately.
