The English countryside is definitely one to be explored on a visit to England, particularly the northern coast. Located in Norfolk, Burnham Market is a quaint little English village hosting a beautiful hotel that’s definitely not to be missed: The Hoste. On my stay here, I was blown away by the lovely and cozy atmosphere: the comfy chairs, the fire place, and especially the food.

IMG_2974Snacks are available throughout the day, both at the pub inside the hotel and in the sitting area. Guests can take a seat in any of the large, comfy chairs surrounding wooden tables and order a pint, a mulled wine, or a cocktail, along with some nibbles. I opted for the warm breads plate with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and the oysters. They offer three choices of oysters, so naturally I had to try them all. They had the natural oyster on the shell with some lemon, the Rockefeller, which had the oyster on the shell covered in melted cheese and wilted spinach, and then, my favorite, the bloody mary oyster shot. Wow. The oysters were fresh and wonderful and I still can’t stop thinking about that bloody mary oyster shot!

IMG_2979For dinner later on, we enjoyed the same seating area with a pre-dinner drink as we waited for our table to be ready. The waiter came around with a menu for us to peruse before we were seated. He took our order just before we were brought to our seats—definitely good service! For starters, I went with the pot roasted Norfolk quail, which came over an apple puree and potato cake with crisp Norfolk pancetta and a deep fried quail egg and black pudding.

IMG_2992The same nibbles as I had earlier are offered at dinner, but we decided we were all set with the oysters for the day. Warm bread is placed on the table when you are seated with a side of butter. In keeping with the Norfolk theme, I went with the seared Norfolk venison for my main dish. The venison was served beautifully with pumpkin puree, buttered Savoy cabbage, black currents, and thyme. It was epically wonderful.

IMG_3003But don’t forget about dessert! The dark chocolate fondant came with pieces of honeycomb and blood orange sorbet—incredible! The chocolate fondant resembled a chocolate molten lava cake and, when cut into, oozed out delicious, warm chocolate goodness.

IMG_3001Suffice it to say, the food at The Hoste is not to be missed and it’s definitely worth the trip to this little village by the coast. Yum!
