I had never been to Norwich before. We decided to make a trip of it and booked a room at 38 St Giles for a night. I didn’t know what to expect to be honest, but when we finally navigated through the narrow winding streets and located the parking lot (third time’s the charm), we made our way to this completely quaint boutique hotel in the middle of the city center. Our room was the Mancroft Room located on the third floor and, after walking up flights of stairs, we walked into our beautiful little room with fresh flowers on the table.
Now for the best part… Shortly after we arrived, complimentary chocolate cake (fresh out of the oven!) was brought up to our room with a little jug of milk to go along with it. Nothing says tea time quite like cake and milk! I guess tea would have also said tea time, however, the cake is the main attraction here. It was chocolatey, dense, brownie-like with a layer of nuts throughout. In one word: [absolutely] divine. Yum. And how cute is that little jug of milk? I’d like to assume it was freshly milked from a cow before being brought to the room.

But the food gets even better (when you wake up). We had a night out in Norwich, a visit to BrewDog (one of my favorites) and some more bar/pub hopping around before we decided to call it a night and head back to our lovely bedroom because not only does the room come with complimentary cake upon arrival but it also includes breakfast in the morning! Being as we’re in England, I can never refuse a proper English breakfast. Ever.
Given that we had gone out the night before and were inclined to stay in the room for as long as we had it before we had to hit the road and head back to Cambridgeshire, I made the trek downstairs to the dining room to ask if it was possible to have breakfast in the room. The women working in the kitchen said absolutely and I placed the order! A full English breakfast with poached eggs for two with tea. Shortly after the order was placed and I had ran back upstairs, a knock at the door and the food had arrived! And it was perfection. English bacon, sausage, poached eggs, roasted tomatoes and mushrooms piled onto the plate beautifully with a side of fruit and yogurt, a pitcher of fresh juice and a pot of tea… is your mouth watering yet?

Mornings really could not get better than this. Although Norwich wasn’t my favorite escape, I would gladly return if only to stay at 38 St Giles and devour the deliciousness they are serving up all day long.
